Most of the answers are good. But, these grasses are about 2ft to 4ft around and when not trimed about 8-12ft high. Any differences in killing such large plants. They are hard to dig up.

In some cases you can lay down plastic or newspaper, and it will eventually "smother" the grass, killing it. Then it will be easier to pull or dig out. You may have to lay rocks or bricks on the paper or plastic. But it's like when you forget to move a car, or a hose or something that's been on your lawn.

It is funny you asked this question, I was thinking of asking similar question today.

My neighbor has ornamental grass and it has started to seed and spread. My question was going to be "How do you tell a neighbor that their ornamental grass is invading your yard and you want them to remove it"?

This is how I did it this past summer.... but I am sure I will have more to fight off this spring:

* Dig the patches up, roots and all

* Fill the hole with soil

* Plant grass seed

You have to stay on top of the patches, the bigger you let them get, the harder it is to destroy them.

Also, if you are in a similar situation, where the grass is invading your yard... go to the source and start clipping the seeds off.

I started cutting the heads of my neighbor's grass this fall because they are irresponsible with their yard. I figure by preventing the grass from seeding, I have a better chance of the grass not spreading.

Good Luck!

Depends on how much and dense the grass is. If you have runners going into your plant beds pull them or edge them and dig em up. If your looking to get rid of a vast amount you can spray them with any weed killer (round up). But if your meticulous spraying weed killer will smoke them, and you'll also be digging up the dead plant. There is always labor involved.
