My boyfriend and I have had sex before, but the other day, we were having sex, and I started to bleed. I was due for my period sometime during that week. But the bleeding lasted for less than a day. What does this mean?

Sometimes it can be a pre-bleed from your period. Don't worry too much about it, unless you experience(d) pain with the bleeding. In that case, go speak to your Dr.

Other than that, it can just mean a friction problem; you might not have been as well lubricated as you thought you were.

Or it could just be the remainder of your hymen, in this case, there's absolutely nothing for you to worry about and it's completely normal.

The only time I'd think you should worry is if you're experiencing pain, if not, it's just your body telling you to take your time and be well lubricated or that you're due on and the contractions of your orgasm could have released some of the lining of your womb.

Spotting, stimulated by hormonal changes. You likely have an existing hormonal problem. Get it checked. It IS fairly common to spot during ovulation, but ovulation typically occurs 14 days before your period. Given you mentioned you were expecting a period, I'm thinking that's not the case. One other option would have to do with pain. If you were experiencing pain or have recently just started having sex, it could just be that you aren't lubricated (i.e., sexually aroused).

You either weren't lubricated enough or the two of you were being too rough; either way, you tore a little bit. It happens sometimes. If it starts happening frequently, try seeing a doctor, but once in a while it's not abnormal.

Most likely, since you are not a virgin, you were not lubricated enough. You didn't say how many times you've had sex before, but if it were only once before, it could still be your hymen tearing a little.
