Already checked circuit breakers. Neighbors dont have this problem. Called the electric company and said they will come when they have time. Will they come into the house and find out what is wrong or do they just deal with outside problems? Any ideas on what to do? Its about 10 degrees and dont want the pipes to break.

It sounds like one phase of the electrical has been interrupted somehow. This happened to me a few years ago when a tree branch came down on the wire from the pole to the house. The tension on the wire pulled the service entrance pole down and loose from the top of the meter. This pulled one of the two "hot" wires out of the meter so we had only one of the two phases.

Have you checked things that run on 220? Do they seem to work, but not work right? For instance a 220V window air conditioner, a 220V electric dryer, an electric stove, etc...

Good luck.

The utility company will ensure power is being delivered through the electrical meter and to the main panel. After that it's your responsibility. If you have electricity in part of your house there is nothing the utility company will do.

Double check your circuit breakers. Turn each one fully off and then back on. Sometimes they will trip but not actually appear to be tripped. Same goes for the large main breaker feeding the panel. Cycle it off and back on again.

Is there a second panel somewhere in the house? Sometimes a renovation or extension to the house will be powered from a sub panel fed from the main panel. Ensure the breakers in this panel have been cycled off and on again as well.

well it is definitely in the house sometimes breakers will fool you.
they can simply get old and just don't work anymore but they won't trip the switch so you think it's not a breaker when it is. you can use a tester on them to be sure The power company will come in the house but they usually won't fix it if it is in the house. they just tell you whats wrong. Use a space heater to keep pipes from freezing.

Typically your local utility company only deals with outside problems. You may get a quicker response by calling a local electrical contractor. You can find them in the phone book, or the internet yellow pages.

Do you have any of the long red cardboard type fusees in the house. They may be bad.
