Well...It will bite you. But if the turtle is only about a lil bigger than a quarter no need to worry. It probably wouldn't do any harm. Its actually funny.. my brother was 4 and there was this pretty good sized box turtle and i didn't wanna pick it up. He was like it won't bite see. He stuck his finger right and front of it. It bite him hard. I cracked up laughing. So big turtles will bite. I have raised actually 50 baby snapper turtles and they never bit me. Sooo baby turtles will try to bite but can't, won't, ur it might not hurt if they do. If you have troubles with the turtle my advice would to be let it go back in the wild ur give it to a more experienced person.

Don't put your fingers in it's face and you won't get bit.
Most important thing here is that you don't know what kind of turtle you have. If you don't know what kind of turtle it is, you can't take the best care of it. I suggest you go to a local library or book store and find a field guide to your local turtles if it is wild caught and figure out what you have, and the LEGALITY of owning it because some turtles are endangered species (Alligator snapping turtles here in Florida are endangered, and are -WELL- known for opening their mouths every time they're picked up). After you have done this, find a book or three on the care and maintenance of the type of turtle you have, that way you can make sure that you are taking care of it correctly and it can live it's entire life with you happily and healthily, and maybe longer than you'll live depending on what kind it is.

If it is that small but 1 1/2 years old, it needs better care, and probably a better diet.
Turtles can bite, but if it is that small, it sure can't cause much pain, and won't break the skin!

I have two turtles and sometimes when I pick them up they open their mouths like they are going to bit me but I just lightly rub their chin and they calm down. But it might still bite you but I dont it will hurt if it is that small.

Please research your turtle so you know how to properly care for it. If you do not know what kind it is, you don't know how to care for it.
There are many, many kinds of turtles!

it wont hurt but its just showing it might not want to be held(if you hold it). it might be afraid that it let its guard down too much. mine did that for a period of time but then it stopped.
