My teacher says that i will get my shoes in May or June, but that was right at when i started. How do i know if i will get them soon? Today[thursday feb.15] i had a real bad dance lesson. i was messing up so badly at warm-ups. I was good at the other stuff. Will this affect me in any way from getting my shoes?? What if i have other bad days??? Please help!!!!!!! i desperately want them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is SO exciting that you will be getting your pointe shoes!

It sounds to me like your teacher was right when she said May or June. You are over the age limit (12) and have been dancing for a long time. You teacher is probably just waiting until May or June because she wants you to build you muscles back up.

I don't think having a bad day at dance will affect when you get them. Everyone has there days when they can't hit a count, can't hit that second pirouette, or even get their feet to do what they want. (In fact, I just had an awful turning day, couldn't even hit 2!) I think what may affect you is how you handle that bad day. If you shake it off, your teacher may see that you realize you've made some mistakes, but you realize it's ok to have a bad day.

Is it just you getting the shoes or the whole class? If the whole class is getting their pointe shoes the same time as you, you may see a difference in your barre work. She may make you do some different excercises that will work your legs harder to prepare you.

I'm just curious as if your teacher is giving them to you or she will give you permission to get them in June. (Sounds to me like she's giving them to you.) Either way, just make sure you get them fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. If not you could screw your feet up, and we don't want that.

Good Luck!

Keep up the good work at dance class, and you're on the right track. I danced from the time I was 3 until I was a jr. in high school and got my pointe shoes about your age... ballet is an art form known for hard work and perserverance. Keep going to class, don't worry about bad days (everybody has them!) and always, always do your best. And if you just can't wait anymore, don't be shy: ask your teacher how you're doing, and if there's anything he or she would recommend doing differently in order to get your pointe shoes in the coming months. Good luck.

Keep practicing. A bad day is a bad day. You have to shake it off. I know the expericen of a bad class, messing up at the barre and then continuting. You can't let it affect you to the point where you are having more bad days then good. Try to relax before you go into class. Strech, practice the combonation in your head and out on the floor. Mark the combo while the other girls are going across the floor.

Your teacher will let you know when you are ready. until then, keep going to class, keep working with therabands to strengthen you ankles and arches. Keep working towards your goal.

If you have been dancing for 9 years I'm surprised to hear you only had one bad dance day so far. LOL. It happens sometimes to all of us. An occasional bad day won't affect your overall progress. Just don't injure yourself. When you realize you are having a bad dancing day just acknowledge it to yourself and keep working. Be patient with yourself. I feel I make the most progress when I keep working on the "bad" days. Then the next day my dancing is better than it used to be all of a sudden.

OMG GIRL CALM DOWN! i have the same problem. only i have to wait until next year to get mine. May or June? that's like the end of the "dance year" for me. it's fine if u mess up some. dance class is about learning so that you will eventually get it and do it perfectly.

I think the most important trait to be on pointe is to have strong ankles and good balance. Of course, you have to have technique, but also, you know, everyone has their bad days... I do too. Not that I like them... Yeah, I just got on pointe, and yup, you need strong ankles and a good balance, since your ankles hold you up.
