Good Leaders listen to their followers. Good leaders were not always in the lead, they had to listen and learn how to lead.
Therefore following before leading. With "Good" being the emphasis. "Bad" leaders usually never learned to follow. It's their way or the highway. Example: Saddam Hussein. Therefore not knowing or caring for the people following and what they are about.
Early Bird Gets the Worm. Example:The walmart lines the morning after Thanksgiving. Guess who gets the big TV? First 5 In line.

A good leaders emerges from among a group of followers having expected the responsible of complying with the orders some one, has given him for a long period of time, the follower learned what the quality's of a Superior leader are, and steps up to the plate and starts to be the leader
Simply put, one must be able to take orders before giving them.

You cannot hope to be a good leader until you can actually understand why others follow. Then you can inspire them. Worms are on the top of the ground early in the morning before the heat sets in. You snooze, you lose.

Actually, if you look at really spectacular leaders, they were never followers, but they had a combination of imagination and brutality. Being accustomed to command is learned in early childhood, probably bec. parents are both weak and impressed with the child.
The US is in a crisis covered up by Iraq: Traffic congestion: Tell your friends about Hallitubes..google it. This is really critical: children are being separated from their parents due to long commutes, leisure time is lost, stress increases....

Look at a flock of geese
-All the gesse follow one
- All honk to encourage him the WHOLE way
- if the lead goose is tired another has been ready to take his place
- if one goose falls two go down to help prtect it
- they stay with it until it can fly again or it dies
In order to become a good leader you must have a look at what it is like to follow. Work your way up.
Encourage all behind you and let them encourage you.

Nah, to be a good leader all you need do is to motivate your followers. If you can do that then you are a good leader (for your followers).
Winston Churchill was a good leader for his people, but I doubt all those Eastern European countries thanked him for his hand in partitioning them and selling them out to the Russians after WWII.
