Sounds pretty broken to me. You really ought to have gone to the doctor straight away. If it is broken you quite probably need to get it in plaster, before it heals in the wrong place. Otherwise you would have to have it rebroken manually and then reset. Doesn't sound too pleasant does it?!
I did pretty much the same almost one year ago. I was sledging, stood up, trod on ice and fell on my backside. As I landed my elbow also hit the ground which was frozen solid. I nearly didn't go to hospital as I thought it was just a sprain at first, although I was in agony. Luckily I did.
The result? A broken elbow, and my upper arm was broken down the middle, as was my lower arm, and the elbow end of my lower arm bone was also broken off, four breaks! I had plaster only until the next day when I was taken down for surgery. This was last March and the plates, pins, wires and screws were removed last November. No further plaster cast for a broken elbow though :(
A sprain, and I've had plenty of those, yes I'm accident prone, tends to ease off after a couple of days and shouldn't be so sore that you literally couldn't move it.
Please, go and see a doctor as soon as you possibly can. And don't go trying to shoot balls until it's at least in plaster or wrapped!
Even if it's just sprained you need to see a doc because if it hurts that bad you may have damaged ligaments or nerves.
Good luck and I hope it gets easier to deal with soon :)
ps, if you get an xray and it doesn't show anything, but doesn't seem to heal, do go back again a week later, because if you break the scaphoid bone (on the thumb side of your wrist) it doesn't always show up on an xray at first, for some strange reason. I know loads of people who have had that happen to them!

How do I say XRAY?????? How can you possibly think asking peoples opinion can tell you if your wrist is broken. It may be just sprained but we do not know, get ice on it and keep it wrapped until You get to get it xrayed.
My ankle was broken and did not hurt at all, except when I tried to pick my foot up it swung loose . The bones had snapped when I fell.
See your Doctor and get an xray. and Good Luck.

It is possible that you could of broken it as you smacked down on it, but because you can make your fingers into a fist shape it could just be bruised. But you honestly don't know, so don't move it too much just in case and get yourself to the hospital!!! Hope you get better soon x

First of all treat it with ice. and go to the emergency room, you could have sprained it, chipped a bone, fractured or broken it. an x-ray is in order. Ice will help reduce swelling and promote healing.

I was doing the same thing many years ago--sledding and hit a rock..smashed my left arm into rock...very painful. etc. I went to doc after 2-3 days and had a compound fracture in wrist, and he said if I had waited any longer, he would have had to rebreak it, as it was starting to knit together wrong...so go get it seen!

Yes. I have broken my wrist twice and that is what it feels like. Go see a doctor soon before it does permanent damage.

1st question did you go to the doctor? 2nd how old are you because if your young more then likely its sprained and if your older then there is a possibility its broken, but you should really go get it checked out before it really gets worst

It sounds sprained in the very least - you should go see a doctor to prevent it from healing incorrectly if it's something serious!
