There are several styles of meditation. The most common one is where you sit in a relaxed position and chant some mantra. Then there is the yogic meditation where you sit cross-legged on the floor with your back straight and eyes closed. Then you inhale and exhale evenly. The whole idea is letting your mind go. In other words, emptying your mind.
The one I do is where I have my back against the wall with my legs stretched out. Of course, I am on the floor. Then I concentrate on my breathing for about 5 minutes making sure it is even and not hurried. After about 5 minutes, I feel really relaxed and then I can start focusing on my mind (whatever is left of it). Lots of thoughts and ideas and other items will crop up. Do not hold on to them. Just let go. I don't like chanting some verse or mantra or whatever. I like to hear my thoughts without holding on to them. Sometimes it is scary. I do it for about 20 minutes every day. I do not force myself to concentrate if I am disturbed. Then you start focusing on the thought that disturbed you. The way I do it works for me.
Meditation is great, absolutely great.

Okay, if you read seventeen they just had a whole part about how to meditate. But you need to find you breathing and making sure you breath in from your nose, and out from your mouth. Then think of a calm place, and the noises that are there, like the ocean wave ect. then say to yourself...."i am peaceful....i am peaceful-i am calm...i am calm" good luck!

Remember day dreaming???
Same thing, except you consciously relax and let your thoughts go to a dreamy place.
