I think he should have been a little more educated with his answer. There is not a law stating everyone has to be around, support, love, hold, hands ect... with gay people. I don't hang around gay people, I don't hate them I just don't chill with them no big deal.
If a new paper asked me why I'd say "Hey it's just not my thing" and leave it at that. Thats what Tim Should have done. This day and age things are way to sensitive for him to say what he said. It all comes down to education.
Get your point across without being an A**hole. Semantics are everything when it comes to the news. He was a Pro Athlete he should know that. Oh well, life goes on.
To the guys above you won't be in the NBA if you can't play with Black people. Close comparison but not quite.

Yes. But not because he doesn't like gay people but because his statements reinforce violence against homosexuals.
Saying that they don't deserve to live in this country implies that they are less American and thus less human. If a homosexual is less human then what's the problem with beating the crap out of them?
He wasn't just condemming he was all fire and brimstone about it and that just fuels ignorance. As a role modle he isn't suposed to do this however.
If he had been more tactful (and smarter) he could have said this: "I would not feel comfortable playing with a gay teammate." And leave it at that. Can you see the difference between my more tactful statement and his? His statement provokes anger my more tactful one does not.
That's why he isn't allowed to play. When you are in the public spotlight you must be careful with your words or just don't say anything at all.

No he shouldn't be condemned. He answered the question, just like you said, and he gave his honest answered. Of course the media is going to take what he said and hump it dry. You know what bothers me? I can understand people getting pissed about what Tim said and these people wish he wouldn't have said it. But...Why does John Ameachi have to come out and say that he is gay?? Why? I don't see why gay people have to make this big announcement about coming out of the closet. Maybe I wrong though, maybe its everyone else that makes it a bigger situation than what it should be. But still, my point is, John should have just not have went public with it...and what everyone is forgeting, or maybe ignoring, is that he has a BOOK in STORES NOW!!!!!!!!

Condemnation for honesty ? Well, I dunno. Someone can honestly be an immature jerk. The point against him isn't his honesty ( thats to be commended at least, for its a rare thing these days), its his bad manners. He'll grow and learn from this and get over it without it too adversely affecting his carreer.

He’s black isn’t he, so maybe a lot of people feel the same way about his kind.
You also have to remember it’s not just “gays”. Where do you think gays came from? There’s millions and millions of parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunts etc who have a gay in their family. So his comments have also insulted them (all straight people). One day you will learn yourself and then you'll see things differently.
