How many times have you head after a horrific murder rampage: He seemed like everyone else. Hitler was a drifter through the streets of Vienna. Jefferey Daumer raised little suspicion. Ted Bundy was a choir boy turned lawyer. Stalin was a faceless peasant from Georgia. The BTK strangler was an animal abuse enforcer. Do we really know what is in the heart of darkness?

Right now, here in Canada, we have a HUGE case going on in BC. There is a man named Pickton who killed at least 49 women and fed the remains to his pigs. Why did it take so long for the police to become aware of his activities? They were all street women. Prostitutes and the like. It wasn't until a young woman who had no connection to that lifestyle went missing that red flags started to be raised. While incarcerated he admitted to a 'fellow inmate' that he would have liked to make it an even 50 before he was caught. They can only try him on 6 of the 49 women he has admitted to in police statement. Because the only remains after sifting through the muck and mire were those of those poor unfortunate women.
Yes, I agree with you. I never knew one of my uncles was a child molester until I became an adult and could defend myself. No-one re-enforces negatives. My parents were very good about protecting us girls. Many times I remember him being at our supper table and many times I remember being told not to wear 'certain' clothes. No one knows what evil lurks in the heart of man.

I don't know, but I don't want to believe that. It just seems like we ought to be able to notice that something isn't right with a person who is truly evil. I wonder if people really knew Daumer and the young Hitler...the ones who said they were just ordinary? Or if they just knew them in passing? Some people are so lacking in discernment, so oblivious.
It doesn't happen often, but on occasion I have walked past a person and felt an almost tangible sense of evil. Not trying to be mystical. More often I sense warmth and friendliness in people.
I pay attention to my intuitions.
I think ( I hope) that evil is unspectacular when it wants to be, but we can train our hearts and minds to detect it.

I agree, Evil does seem to be a human thing. Although I have seen a documentary where wild Chimps in the jungle do commit murder for no apparent reason. All that aside though, If it were not for Evil, would we not have a gauge to measure the spectacular good we humans do?

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a
battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between 2
"wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false
pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
"Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
