to pay attention to what you are saying they are all ears, but when you are talking to them their ears start flapping and they can't hear a word you said?

I guess this is what is called selective hearing!

I agree, and times when I need him to talk to me he is quiet and other times I am tired and need quiet and he is more talkative than ever, just one of those things I guess

they think that when you talk to them it is going to be boring, but when you don't' want them to hear it, it must be something good.
