He's probably borderline at this point, he just needs to keep up a comparable level of play for a few more seasons.
It took Nash a while to establish himself in the NBA... he was under 10 ppg in each of his first four seasons, and he didn't become a regular starter until his 5th season in the league.
Nash has only made the All Star team 4 times to this point (this season will be his 5th), but a few more selections would make him a no-questions-asked Hall of Famer. He NEEDS to stay healthy. And his case will be helped if he wins a title or two.
Shawn Marion HAS become a more efficient player since Nash got to Phoenix. The last three (full) seasons have seen Marions FG percentage jump from .440 to .476 to .525 (with the latter two numbers being Nash's MVP seasons), meaning that Nash is getting the ball to him in situations where he's better able to score (Marion's scoring averages during that time were 19.0, 19.4 and 21.8). Marion is shooting .511 so far this season and he's averaging 18 ppg (he's not shooting as much as he has in the past).
Nash has an outside shot at a 3rd straight MVP, but it doesn't look like he'll get it this time. He'll probably have to settle for two in a row.
So far, every player who has won back-to-back MVP awards and is eligible for the HOF is in.... Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. (Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan have also won back to back MVPs, but neither is eligible for the HOF yet).
I should also note that each of the prior back-to-back winners who is in the HOF also won more that two awards in their careers, though:
Russell (total of 5, including 3 in a row and 4 in 5 years)
Chamberlain (total of 4, including 3 in a row)
Abdul-Jabbar (total of 6, including 2 back-to-backs)
Moses Malone (total of 3)
Larry Bird (total of 3, won in consecutive years)
Magic Johnson (total of 3, won in a 4 year period)
And future HOF'er Jordan won 5 MVPs.
So, while it's true that Nash is "in the group" of players who have won back to back MVP awards, it's also true that he's at the very bottom of that group in terms of overall achievement, and is not really close to any of those other guys as a baskeball player.
Also, I would argue that winning back to back MVP awards really isn't any better than winning two MVPs which are NOT won back to back... it just looks better on the year by year MVP lists.
I don't think Nash would make the HOFer on the basis of his current to-date accomplishments if he retired today... but a few more all star games would definitely put him in ... five really isn't that much (but he'll be in a few more if he stays healthy). And again, if he wins a title or two, that will help his case greatly.

Steve Nash is one of the best players in the NBA...2 straight MVPs and lets not forget that he is a contender this year although i highly doubt he wins it again...a ring would guarantee his spot but I dont forsee them getting one unless something happens to Dallas. Without a ring I just dont know because you are right his career will likely end within the next few seasons, I think when its all said and done he will make it but some of the people here are making it sound like a lock when it most certainly is not.

probable whether it would be a minimum of 10 years later from right this moment. I agree the view on Steve Nash as a prior due boomer and whilst in comparison with the like of Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller, Gary Payton, Artis Gilmore or bill Lambeer, he may well be a weaker case (and that i think human beings will call for attention on Mark Jackson could Nash be inducted).

yes steve nash is a potential hall-of-famer. he has won 2 back-to-back mvps and about to get a third. he has many more mvps to come and at least 1 nba title. he could become the greatest point guard of all time.

Yup. Only a couple of other guys have won 3 MVP's so if he wins it this year he's a guranteed Hall of Famer.

Hell No!!!!!!! STEVE NASH SUCKS MAJOR!!!!!!!! The last 2 years been some HORRIBLE decisions on who's the season MVP is....That guy isn't even the mvp on his team. Marion & Amare are both more of a MVP then NASH WACK A**!!!! Marion average a double doulbe as well. If you take away all of Marion points & rebounds that team would be in TROUBLE!!!!!!......and Nash is not the reason Marion scores...because Marion & Amare were already scoring in double figures before Nash got there....and Marion was already averaging a double double...it was Nash stats who actually got better when he joined The Sun...That team makes Nash better! DIGIT!!!!!!!
