I am suffering from depression and thought I would be able to control it on my own. Can someone tell me what are some of the best anti-depressants that really work and what are the side effects. I am 5'3" and weigh 105 lbs. I will call my doctor but want to know for my own good. Thanks very much.

There are so many products currently on the market that only trial and error can be the judge of what will work for you. When you see your MD ask him/her for a list of the med's they're thinking of and research the side-effects on the Internet so you can go back to them informed. Ask them if they have any samples to provide before you go out and spend a lot of money on a medication that's not for you. Then, when you start taking them keep a notebook of whatever is going on...sometimes they can even make you worse so don't "put up with it" call you MD immediately and give them the list of what you're experiencing so they can be well informed for you and do what is best for your mental health.

Before you consider anti-depressants.

Go to your Doctor and have your Thyroid and Hormones checked. Lack of hormones or Hypothyroidism (an under active)
Thyroid will cause depression.

I was depressed for 7 years and learned 2 years ago my thyroid was not working up to par and in one month on a pill a day I was back to feeling normal.

Some symptoms are of course the depression, feeling cold all the time, eyebrows falling out, a low temperature most of the time especially when you wake up in the morning.

Have your Doctor and see if this might be the problem.

Wellbutrin really helped me when I was depressed. Plus the same medicine is also marketed at a stop smoking aid. It didnt work for me on that level but the depression was fixed.

Try hanging out with some friends or doing a little fun exercise, like riding a bike, or swimming, if your somewhere warm, it will probably be cheaper than antidepressants. That's what alternative medicine is about, not pills.
