If you have snow chains, that is the easiest way... However there are a couple of techniques that might help you.
1. If your car is an automatic transmission you can accelerate the engine mildly and shift back and forth from reverse to drive. By using a bit of timing you can shift at the optimum points. It wil go a little farther forward and a litle farther forward with each shift. DO NOT SPIN THE WHEELS if you can help it.
Another methos is to lay a couple of old blankets down in front of the tires and carefully move forward on to them, then put them in front again when you run off the end if needed.
If you have already spun the wheels and dug yourself a hole that the wheels are down in, the best solution is to jack up each wheel and put boards or rocks under the tire then carefully move forward.
The last option is a long rope attached to another vehicle that is on hard suface, make sure that you use the right towing points on your cars and again, move your car slowly forward as you are being towed out.

You could put some salt in the trunk, but whenever you do encounter a problem you can have the salt for the snow, and for ice it will take alot longer to completly melt the ice, so you put the salt on top off the ice so the tires have something to grab at.

go around and try to find some really big pieces of wood, rocks, bricks, something that you may throw behind the tire and but your car into reverse and back into drive until it catches grip, or you can get some cat litter and put it on the snow to melt it. Or you can always do it the cool way and just lay beside the tire and get someone else to get into the car and reverse over you and when your blood comes out it will melt the snow oh yea that gives me another idea try peeing on it may sound gross but who cares your stuck.

A mustang?, good luck!, they are horrible in snow and ice, if stuck you just have to rock it out, put it in forward and then reverse and give it some gas until you rock yourself free.

Well that would be tough, mustangs are not made for snow.... just try to go real slow..... it would be impossible to get a mustang out of snow.
