In 2005 US Congress changed the dates that daylight savings time starts and ends. The change takes effect this year. It is intended to reduce energy consumption (silly isn't it?). It will take effect 3 weeks earlier (3-11) and I believe it ends one week later. This is all good and great but it means that clocks, watches, vcr's, computers and all lot of other gadgets will not be able to automatically adjust to daylight savings time. Some older versions of Windows will not have a "patch" to fix this problem. Newer versions do have a patch (Windows XP SP2 or later).

Therefore, while it seems simple enough, it really will be a pain in the butt in some cases. Some software and gadgets will never ever again be able to correctly adjust to daylight savings time in the US.

We started having daylight savings time, during a time when daylight actually mattered.

Now thanks to Mr. Edison, we synthesize light and with respect to our current society, most jobs don't require actual daylight.
