I'm just wondering because Native Americans were just as harshly discriminated against just like the blacks. There is evidence that some cacausians have black ancestry. This is confusing to me.

My guess at this answer would be refering to the stereotypes associated with each of these ethnic groups.

As much as Native people are depicted as savages they are also romanticized and depicted as Noble. Both are stereotypes that have nothing to do with Native culture. People want to identify with the stereotype of the Noble Savage. Why? They created the stereotype, they see humans in this way as beautiful people with a wild side. Another reason is that to be Native means one doesn't need to feel guilty about their ancestors colonization of Native people, they can identify with the Native part of themself instead. And yet another reason is that being Native is seen as a rebellion of sorts because the Native way of life is seen as contradictory to contemporary life, people who are unhappy with life today like the thought of going back to a different kind of life.

Anyways, it has to do with a lot of stereotypes and images portrayed by the media.

If we all go to know each other and really know our own heritages then we can respect both ourselves and each other.

When I was a kid being white didn't mean much, the folks in power were WASP.
I do see a lot in the media about discrimination against black people, asians, muslims...but the ones I know personally are all proud to be what they are. They just wish they could get an even break.
Native Americans also know the same discrimination, but I have heard much less of it in the media.
Whites claiming to be proud of Native American ancestry? Sure, I know many. And I also know a whole lot of African Americans who are just as proud of their ancestry, and some of them look like whites. There is something going on here!!
It is not just Africans, or Native Americans, or Hispanics, or mid-easterners. It is that in the past few decades westerners are discovering that we rush too fast in the "All about me getting rich quick" rat race and we forgot the old ways of life that connected us to the land and the other critters on spaceship earth. The old cultures have not been forgotten (yet) and some people with a little bit of old blood are proud to go back and learn good things from their ancestors' culture.
The African tribes and the Native American tribes never burned so many fires that the world warmed up and the iceburgs melted.
I am proud to learn very old types of singing, dancing, and drumming from these folks.

i am irish and spanish, ("mostly" lol) but i have never met another white person with my maiden name outside my own family. it is a very common black name. no plantations in my history, just a bunch of sharecroppers. i mentioned this to my grandfather once when my aunt was talking about having trouble tracing the family tree and he started crying and told me to never say that again. i don't know if it's because he was a bigot, or because he was afraid something bad would happen to him. his reaction could have meant either, i was young and remember feeling very scared. i've seen movies where a light skinned black person would have their family telling them to keep quiet about their history, with good reason because there was still slavery. maybe it's because so much of the history was lost that it can't really be proven. maybe it's because parents kept telling their kids not to talk about it until the kids became convinced it wasn't true.

then again, maybe it's just as simple as you can't get a roll card for being black!

Perhaps they dont have any african in them. Also where I live if i stated that I was some % African I would be looked at as a joke. I have had my family history done and I do have native american in me and in all the generations that have been documented not one of them is black.

Its fear ,all evidence points to Africa as the cradle of civilization if proof was found that blacks were the first humans on the planet whites superiority complex would be shattered. that's why they have such a problem with Jesus being a person of color. But read the description in the bible

Those that have it SHOULD include it among their heritage when talking about it... Although we don't all have it, so forgive me if I only claim 'white' and Native...

If one is White he is not of any other race otherwise he is a racial mix and that will be evident by looking at him. Because of affirmative action benefits some White folk will pretend to be of mixed race and obviously it is better to pick anything but the lowly *** race.
