This is a good question. I love to contribute to my community. I teach culture to youth in my community and participate in cultural events. I do a lot of volunteer work, not only to my community.

My culture believes in respecting what our ancestors and elders have given to us and passing it on to future generations. We should support our communities.

My cultural influence is a big factor in the way I serve my community.

very good question... the things you bring with you when you leave your country will or will not benefit you depending how you use what you've got. a lot of my related ethnic people do not care about intermingling, but I advice that. in fact I used to teach ESL to "my people" and the best advice I ever could give them was to mingle, stay away from their groups and reach out to the English speaking community. Those who listened passed in three months. Those who didn't still try to figure out why everything they hear translates differently than they think it should... :)
But it's not just the language skills... it's the whole culture, I think you can be a better person by combining the strengths and overcomming your own weaknesses by learning and studying both yours and the culture you want to integrate into. I definetly think you can keep your uniqueness, and still benefit from the culture you were melted into. And for what's worth, so is the culture, better... because your success refelcts on the community and ultimately on the nation.

Thats a very good question...
I know that because my ethnic group is quite small .. I have to stick to my religious community group... which is a diverse one made up of Arabs, Indians, South Africans, Pakistanis, Asians and Australians..
I guess it makes me more aware of my actions and how i should be setting a good example.. I guess I almost have to prove myself to the rest of the world by setting these examples..

Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting on a show/act or anything.. i genuinely feel that the way I behave is how I should behave and it has made me a better person for it.

I participate in a lot of volunteer work... I participate in many forums to better the wider community..including communities of other faiths or ethnic groups..

It makes me proud of myself to be a small part of a larger plan..

Peace and Love..

They don't. I look at myself as an American, not an ethnic group.
