Two consecutive 4 year terms, or 8 years.

Well, assuming you mean the United States President, the answer is 8 years if he is elected for two terms in office. The exception here would be if he or she was a Vice President (or somewhere else in the line of succession) and came to power first that way, then after completing the elected president's term, he or she could still be elected twice, exceeding the 8 years that most posters have suggested.

A president can serve for a maximum of two terms, each term being 4 years. In short, 8 years

Two consecutive terms, each of Four calender Years, plus the balance of a term commenced as Vice-President should the incumbent die in office, resign the post, be imprisoned, or be removed from Office by an act of Congress or by the Chief Justice.
In point of actual fact the President only actually serves for about 18 months in each term. The rest of the time is spent either settling in to power or trying to get re-elected. Or handing over via the transition period to the next incumbent.

1 four year term, 2 four year terms (8 years)

also, if he is Vice President and becomes President after the President dies, he can run for President 2 more times and can be President for a maximum of 10 years (lets say 2 + 4 + 4)

If you're worried about Bush, don't worry, he's done after this term.
