Lines of symmetry divide the shape into equal pieces. When folded on the line of symmetry, the shape overlaps itself. If you ae having difficulties figuring out if something has a line of symmetry, try making a diagram out of paper and folding it.

A line of symmetry is a line on a figure (shape, letter, number) that when reflected the image reflected is the same on the other side and forms the original shape.

For example the letter "H" has two lines of symmetry. One down the middle and one going horizontally (the middle line).

An equilateral triangle (all the same sides and angles) has three lines of symmetry.

A good way to help with lines of symmetry, is to take a small pocket mirror. Place it on in the middle of the figure. If it makes the original shape when you look in the reflection, then that is a line of symmetry.
