My laptop says its a "DVD+/-RW multi-format double layer drive reads and writes DVD's and CD's". I can get my computer to read and write CD's using Windows Media Player, but I can't get it to read and write DVD's.

you need a dvd burning program. if the pc came with this drive, one should already be installed. if not there are lots of good free ones on the 'net - just google/yahoo "free dvd burning software"

Are you using store bought professional movies or movies that you got from someone that they burned? Some will only accept movies that are professionally done. Try changing the brand of DVD that you are using to burn. Check the settings on your laptop. Also check your software. You laptop should have came with burning software.

You need buy a DVD burner and install it in your computer. Or you can get an EXTERNAL DVD burner and just plug it into a USB port on your computer.
