Okay, let me see how I can put this clearly: I've been peeling my skin ever since I was a little kid. It started out with biting my nails, and I don't know how, but led on to me peeling the skin off from my fingers. I don't know if this is tension because I never really keep track lol, but is this supposed to mean something? My fingers have scabs and I really want to know how to stop this. Can you please help? Please be considerate and don't leave anything sarcastic and rude Thanks. x D

this probably doesn't make any difference, but it's only my fingers (at least now it is). I just want to prevent this from covering my whole hands. Thank you so much for taking this seriously! I really appreciate it!

Up until last week, I chewed on the skin on the side of my nails. All the time, even getting infections or bleeding. Yours sounds even worse (I guess, all over your hands?). I stopped just because I know I will need pretty hands soon (or want them to be pretty, the marriage deal)...it is really hard, 'cause I noticed (and I am sure it is the same for you) that I'd do it unconsciously...I'd pick even without thinking.
If you can not stop with willpower alone, try putting on gloves, maybe rubber, put vaseline on your hands while doing it, wear the gloves around the house, as often as you can. If that does not work, see a doc..

See a doctor ...you have to find the reason behind this habit (I think it is more than just a bad habit). There has to be some pain resulting from this and that too could be a symptom of whatever compels you to do this to yourself. Only a doctor specializing in similar disorders can help you find the solution.

sounds like this is a compulsive behavior... see your physician and ask him if he thinks you are ocd...he can give you medications to treat your disorder...

you can get a nasty infection because your hands touch everything...make sure to keep hand sanitizer handy ,,,besides ruining the looks of your hands you are destroying your teeth...

its stress. have you tried to keep your hand occupied with something else. I roll pens and tap my fingers when i don't even notice it. try tricking yourself into another less harmful habit.
