Do you think that the public understanding of science and a strong scientific industry is beneficial to a community and /or country?

huh? your question is rambling & without focus. public understanding (of science) building a strong scientific community. it is with public fund/taxes and private investment that science gains its $$$ standing & innovations. sure it is beneficial for a community/country. how could it not , unless of course, science works against the future. weapons of war, while necessary sometimes, could also deter the future. science is such a broad and sweeping word. tighten up the meaning. define it in more concrete terms & less of an abstract & then an answer can be given. ok? without public awareness comes suspicion. that breeds fear & distrust. i think you can answer the rest yourself.
