I want to let my purple pincher hermit crab go in its natural habitat, but I'm not sure where to do so. I live in northern Florida.

Hi,
First, do you know where your HC is from?
As they grow they need a bigger shell to live in and they thrive in large communities. Do you have these specific environmental conditions available?
Check out the bulletin board at your local pet store (if you like it!) and maybe someone will buy it from you. The reason I say buy it is because you'er more apt to get someone who really wants it and will care for it.

Please do not do that! 1st of all you will need to fly to the Carribbean as that is where they come from.

Leaving it free is inhumane and unfair! There are tons of people who will take it for free. I even ran a hermit crab rescue for this very reason! Had crabs fly to me from California and I am in Florida myself.

They will not survive because it is too cold here now and this is NOT their natural habitat.

Place an ad in your local paper or in pet shops and someone will take him home to their crabs I am sure.

Then it is good you live in florida, they live in the Arabian Sea, the Caribbean Sea, SOUTHERN FLORIDA, Venezuela, and the Bermuda Islands. They like inland areas and like to hide in caves or the roots of a tree. Maybe near ocean where there is food for it, but they usually live together so if you find a colony then leave it with its new friends and check on it to see if is good to go then go home. Good luck!

hermit crabs love the ocean...i would say that the best thing you could do is to find the closest place to his/her natural habitat and let it go there...make sure it's salt water, and i'll bet your crab will be fine
