Just tell them that you are sorry, that you don't deliver or allow customers to pick up their items. Media rate is so inexpensive that he'd probably spend as much or more driving to pick up the book. I used to allow local pick ups and then ended up with a customer who decided that she wanted to be my best friend and now annoys the cr*p out of me.
Also, make sure you use a PO box for your business, just to be on the safe side.

Sellers who list 1 cent items with $14 shipping do not actually spend $14 at the post office. The shipping fee is allowed to be "shipping and handling," and most sellers justify this by saying that they have "handling" costs aside from the actual post office charge (packaging, traveling to the post office, whatever). There are a couple reasons people list items will all the money in the S/H fee: First, people often sort search results by price, and making the item 1 cent with high shipping makes their items show up first without costing them profits. Second, eBay charges a listing fee based on a seller's asking price (shipping does not affect it). By asking 1 cent for the item, they only pay 20 cents to list the item. Sellers also save a ton of money on eBay's final value fees, which are a percentage of the final price (shipping not included).

It's an understandable concern.
I sell a lot of yankees tickets on ebay and sometimes if the game is next day or whatever I'll setup a meet in the city. I don't think I would be quite as comfortable inviting people to the house though.
Most people i've run into seem friendly enough but you never really know. Maybe just make up an excuse that you're on a busy schedule and offer him a discount on the shipping....it's like 4 bucks to priority mail it anyway

Ask a male friend or relative to go with you to give the book to the customer. You are not overacting. Follow your instinct. Never let a stranger know where you live. If he doesn't like that idea, ask for his address and post/mail the book to him.

I would NOT meet this person, if he is too cheap to do as the item is listed, move on to the next bidder in line. Take the proper steps in doing so, but NOPE, don't meet them. I for one have seen one too many Law and Order shows with stalkers and killers from internet buying...

Just tell them to meet you in a public place that YOU choose and tell them to bring cash- NO checks. Also tell them to wear a color that you can identify(red jacket etc.) Then tell them that you will only be there for 1 hour to wait for them. Bring a friend, don't go alone
