the can opener is becoming increasingly redundant with the pull back ringy things that are a far better invention

Some go around in circles and never seem to get to the end.
None of them seem to care for those rectangular cans with the rounded corners.
Our cat just knew when the electric can opener called out, that the call was the dinner call.
We've been reinventing the same can opener ever since someone invented cans. Well, since a few years AFTER they invented the can...
Can openers can be a pain; In the hand when you slip or in the butt when you find you forgot it at home and no one has a Swiss Knife

My general thoughts are that they really do beat the alternative hands down.
The manual ones are all right, but some cheap ones fail too quickly, so you wind up buying either another cheapo or just bite the bullet and buy a quality one.
Electric ones are pretty nice when they work right. Suck when they don't.

I was going to be clever and say that I'd never actually thought about them, but after reading your question, I realised I was actually thinking about them...
I prefer cans with ring-pulls, can openers are annoying, and often get half way then stop working, and all they do is grate off the surface of the metal.... Plus they hurt like hell if you get your finger stuck in one that's in the bottom of the washing up bowl...

Love the new look.
Can openers are a necessary evil. Mine never seems to get the very last little bit of lid off. Then suddenly it does..and the can spills all over. Technology eh?

I need them, although I do not like them much, the good ones are way to much money for a can opener, and the cheap ones don't work right.

You have to have at least two available at work because they have a tendency to go missing in a cryptic voodoo journey 5 mins before lunchtime.

I like mine, actually. But the one I had before was really bad... it was frustrating.
I like the pull-back lids they have on some cans now, eliminating the stupid can opener altogether.
