I have had my saltwater tank up and running for about 6 months now. It has went through the brown algae stage and is working on the green/purple. All of a sudden I now have black algae spots appearing all over in my tank. I have tested all of the levels and they are fine. I can not seem to find any information on the black algae. Is this normal? or what is causing it and how do I get rid of it?

I found something about it. Go to link below.

" Black algae can be a real problem. Especially since you cannot scrap it off and very few fish will eat it. The only two fish that I know of that will eat the stuff are flying foxes and ottos. However saying that I have tried both fish and neither have worked for me. What I would advise is to get out all the leaves covered in the stuff and hope it stops spreading. If it keep spreading on the plant just take the whole thing out and get rid of it cause once it takes hold its a nightmare to get rid off. In the past people have advised me to tear the tank down clean everything and start again but I think this is a bit drastic. Hope this helps :o) "

Algae loves and feeds off of light and warmth. If your tank is by a window or sunlight that will cause issues and try leaving the lights off for the majority of the time. Fish and coral really appreciate the dark more than the light because that's how they live in the Ocean. Or you could try to get salt water Algae eaters. My algae eaters do a fantastic job. Regulate your temperature also.
