I have recently written a few songs, I play guitar and write kinda David Gray, Damien Rice music. What can I do to record these songs on my laptop (software etc) and what can I do to add more to my music (drums, piano etc) when I don't play them!

i agree with the analog approach. go buy an old 4-track and get busy. recording to a computer gets expensive and complicated. i record alomst solely using a computer, but i highly recommend analog recording for acoustic music. theres a warmth to analog recordings that comupters cannot emulate. you can record friends or purchase a drum machine or keyboard to add bass and drums.

if you insist on recording into your laptop, you are going to need some type of interface to plug in and a daw to record and edit. you will also need some type of soft synth or sampler to create bass and drum tracks. one way to go would be pro tools. buy an m-box (the mini would probably work for your purposes). it comes packaged with pro tools and sample versions of reason and ableton live. you would record to pro tools then rewire bass and drum loops from reason or live into pro tools.

there are many other options like this. go to a music shop and explain your goals to a professional. they will give you options and instructions.

Presidents actually have very little power to influence the economy in any way besides public relations. That's because the vast majority of people are gullible enough to be swayed by what the news media reports about what the president says. Our current president has a very difficult time creating coherent sentences, though. So it should be no surprise that he has presided during a period of record home ownership and record foreclosures, record budget surpluses and record deficits. The most bizarre rationale for not taking responsibility that I've heard from the administration is that Bush has Supreme Power when acting as commander-in-chief and no one can review or critique his decisions, not even Congress or the courts. And that the War on Iraqi Civilians has been good for the economy because it has created jobs.

You need to get an Audio interface to allow you to connect your Guitar or Microphone(s) to you Laptop. You'll also need a Audio recording package like Cubase, Nuendo or Pro Tools (Industry Standard).
Line 6 do a good package for beginners called a Tone Port which allows you to connect Guitars and Microphones to your PC via USB. It even has a piece of software that will automatically add a Drum Rhythm. All for around £100.
If your a beginner at Audio and MIDI sequencing then the Tone Port is prob the best thing for ya.

Hope i helped!

consider getting a stand alone recording deck. I have a Korg 8 track digital deck. You can get one for about £400.

Not everything is best through a computer you know!!!!
