Not saying this in any mean way, i was just wondering why they are ugly? And when you see one you KNOW he/she is r-tarded. Are there cute/handsome r-tards? Why can't they ever work their arms-hands right? Why do they always yell illegible words? Why are they in high schools; what do they do in there? Do they graduate??

I am not talking about Down Syndrome people, okay! And i do have empathy. Enough that i want to learn about their conditions okay, jeez. Notice I didn't say retard but r-tard...(if there's any difference...) anyway this is strictly for research, since i can't get it from them.

Another question. Why do all the r-tards work at a local Movie Theatre as a ticket tearer-er...er and then it takes them forever to tell you which theatre room to go to even though you already know. Would it be rude to just run when they try to talk to you?

I usually refrain from answering mean and ugly questions but your question just caught my attention right away. Have some empathy for those less fortunate than you. These kids have it rough as it is without you making fun of them so lighten up and lay off the R-word.

While I don't agree with your terminology or attitude, I will attempt to answer these questions. The reason why many of the mentally disabled are "ugly" is due to just that - they are mentally disabled. Their brain does not function the same (usually the brain functions slower throughout) and normal growth can be inhibited, thus causing distorted features. A common cause of mental retardation - down syndrome - is caused by an extra chromosome. This extra chromosome may cause an odd shaped skull, slanted eyes, protuding tongue, short hands, etc.
There are plently of mentally disabled people that look cute or handsome. I personally know many. Additionally, many can use their hands/arms perfectly fine. Illegible words are often the only noise that some extreme mentally disabled people can make.
No matter what mental state, people still need an education and care. Most do graduate and continue with schooling as some learn at a slower rate than the accepted standards.

Hmm, Well I have seen some people with retardation that look completely normal. And they can't work there arms right either because they don't know how or because they wouldn't know what to use them for (not all don't know how to use arms correctly). (not all yell illegible words) but the ones that do I would says its cause they have turrets syndrome or something of that nature. Retarded or not they are still human beings and have the right to go to school, they need to try and enjoy life just as much as the average man, In the sped classes all they do is the simple 1st 2nd grade stuff probably, and yes they can graduate although there is no reason because I doubt any business man/women would hire them as an employee but like I said, they are still human.

I'm not sure that your question really deserves an answer, as you sound like you are either looking for attention or just being obnoxious, but I will do the best that I can, in difference to your mental ability...
Just so that you know, people with mental or physical disabilities have feelings just like you or I. They cry when they are sad, they laugh when they are happy, they bleed when they are cut! Sometimes their physical disability causes their muscles to react in a way that is not attractive...they have no control over this. But, they still have certain degrees of cognitive ability so some of them are able to attend high school and learn to a certain level. Others who can not, attend programs that teach them life skills, so that they will hopefully be able to care for themselves in the future.
You need to open up your heart, instead of your mouth, and try and find a way to accept these people despite their disabilities. I would suggest that you also reevaluate yourself and why you see the world the way that you do.

Cutting through all your offensive diatribe; it is because the disorders that cause mental retardation also cause other problems, including those to connective tissue and bone etc, hence you will see mild deformities, which you describe as ugliness.
This is most clearly demonstrated in Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21), where there is variable mental retardation and very distinctive facial features.
Anyone in high school is perhaps not as retarded as you might imagine. They have obviously reached a level of comprehension which allows for mainstreaming of education.
Perhaps you are unfairly associating your perception of ugliness with retardation?

YOU are very prejudiced and closed-minded .. and obviously, have some difficulty with education yourself (especially after reading this posting).
I raised my special needs children, and unlike the UGLY label that you have used to call them names, MY children (even with the disability) have not just graduated, but gone on to EARN College Credit (while still in High School) .. and are in college at this time.
I can't emphasize enough how giving and caring children with these disabilities are .. much more so than their non-disabled peers. I've been glad to spend MY TIME (well beyond just my employment -- and yes, I was a Long Term Single Parent) working hard to bring in interesting and creative projects for the children to work on in the classroom -- especially around holiday themes.
YES, the DO graduate High School. SOME have physical disabilities that interfere with their ability to WRITE things down, some have hearing losses or sight loss, and some have difficulty concentrating in an average classroom (and need a smaller class size or a Classroom Aide).
BUT THEY DO GRADUATE from High School!
As far as "ugly" -- the ONLY "Ugly" thing in sight is a prejudiced posting .. and I've just responded to it.

Do you really want a serious answer to this question? People with Down's Syndrome aka "retards" as you put it, look different because they have an extra chromosome where there shouldn't be one. Then when they grow they have conflicting information to use which causes abnormalities in their bone and muscle and brain structures. They have problems controlling their limbs and any muscle systems, including their mouths. They are put in high school because they can learn and have a right to an education like you, and they do graduate to an equivalent level. They just aren't as lucky as you.

Sometimes (as is the case with Down Syndrome), the mental disorder affects their physical features, changing their body or faces into features that society doesn't find attractive.
Since the brain controls the body's functions, a person with a mental disorder cannot control the different parts of their body because their brain is not functioning correctly. The same thing goes for speaking. If the part of their brain that is used for speaking is not developed fully or damaged, then they cannot speak correctly.

WHAT?!!!? Do you have something against mentally challenged people. And RETARDED? Are you RETARDED, what kind of insensitive jerk would say that? They have a problem with their genes. Know anything about genes? No? They control your looks and your cellular self. Of course they have to go to school. They can still learn you know. Why don't you actually meet someone like that to find out they are not that bad. What TOO UNCOOL for you? You fools and your "cool". Only idiots think they are cool. And by the way define cool.

Usually we do things that are reinforcing and gratifying to us. This is in some way re-enforcing for you, its probably the level of reply that you receive from your special insights that allow you to voice such deep philosophical questions. May all of your children be born without clothes on.
