Hello, im currently a junior in high school, and my last yr of high school is around the corner, so i started to think what to do afterwars, and i always considered to be a surgeon, and i know medicine is a very serious profession, and that theres is very little room to screw up, so now im having doubts if to do it because i see myself in school right now, and i dont have that much of enthusiasm when it comes to do tests and hard work, also i dont think im up for all the work, and time that i have to spend...and well im shy person, like if im in a group i wouldnt talk unless someone does to me, and i cant keep up a conversation, and I know if i wanna be what i wanna be in life it would take all the things that im having problems with. so im afraid if i cant do it at all.

Look man, if you don't think you're up for all the work, then just don't do it. I mean, if you wanted to be a surgeon so badly, then you'd work your butt off and wouldn't even CONSIDER screwing up. At least you're not like some of us, who don't even know what they'll be in the future.

Good luck.

Most people your age don't really know what they want to do in life. They may get a notion, but the ideas change. This is normal and good, because there are so many professions, and definitely not all of them are suitable to the individual. It's a huge choice, because who wants to go to work and do things they don't find enjoyable? Even if people respect the work, or it is lucrative, or your parents are urging you.

So if you're questioning your former thinking about this, it's normal and probably good. You learn and change as you get older, and your preferences will change, too.

Along the way, continue to think about what interests you. What sounds like fun to do...and make money doing it? Think about the kinds of work a person like you is best suited for. Right now, you have feelings you're not suited to be a surgeon. Maybe your brain is telling you something you should listen to. Start exploring all the options.

You seem like a thoughtful individual, someone who deserves success down the road. Good luck with the journey!

Outside of school, read about medicine. See if your school counselor can set up some visits for you with a doctor so you could ask questions. If it is worth having, then it is worth the effort it takes.
Many doctors are shy and many had to work harder than their colleagues. Once you acieve your goal it won't matter what you had to overcome to anyone but you. And, you will appreciate it more because you know.
