Before everyone types Magneto, think of everyone who's fought/tortured/killed the X-Men. Then tell me why your villain is the X-Men's Greatest Enemy (you can mention a team, as long as they really were a team)

Maybe a toss up between Apocalypse, The Sentienals, and Mr. Sinister. Although I'm leaning more so towards Apocalypse, he's turned X-men into his horsemen, also Age of Apocalypse anyone.

I once read a story in a The Uncanny X-Men comic, where Jubilee was ambitious and wanted to prove her metal. So she was going to take on what was officially the X-Men's top ten most dangerous enemies. But wolverine stopped her and showed her the list, so she would see what she would be up against. I remember that #10 was Mojo, Don't remember 9 through 7, Though I think#8 might have been The Alien Brood. I think #6 was Omega Red, Don't remember #5. #4 was Apocalypse, #3 was the Sentinels, #2 was Magneto (and his Acolytes), and #1 was the hatred of Man. Again this is from an official source, directly from the comics. Does anybody know the rest of this list? It would be from an old comic, before Fatal Attractions. Magneto had not removed Wolverine's adamantium yet, but Wolverine had gone back to wearing his old blue and yellow costume, instead of his brown one, and I think Colossus had not joined magneto , yet. Exodus had also not made his first appearance yet, I don't think... Please, if anybody can complete this list, please answer me. my brother doesn't have the comic anymore. :(

While I agree with Apocalypse and Humanities Bigotry on many levels and my personal favorite is Strife, I have to say the Dark Phoenix is the one enemy who just makes who think "how the heck will the X-men have any chance of winning this one"; Not only are they torn between trying to save Jean Grey and Having to destroy the phoenix, this one can destroy the the entire universe if it wanted too. Not to mention the head ache caused when the Avengers (and shi'ar) made their respective attempts to take matters into their own hands. The Saga is probably the only story is probably the most remembered in all of Marvel comics, because there are so many great compromises, battles and questions with no easy answer. I got to go with The DP, baby.

Bigorty and hatred from the rest of the world is the answer. An extention of that would be the Sentinels, the physical manifestation of a giant man supressing others. The Sentinels are easily the greatest villains, which have been reworked into other villains plans. Bolivar Trask, Nimrod, Master Mold, Bastion, Danger, Cassandra Nova, and Onslaught all used Sentinels to destroy mutants.

Bigotry is good, and Apocalypse too... But in my humble nerd's opinion.... it is Magneto and his biological children.
Magneto has stripped Wolverine's adamantium from his bones, impailed his BEST FRIEND (and crippled him more than once), scored with Rogue, murdered many people in the name of the greater good, his "evil influence" overpowered Xavier and created Onslaught, and has humiliated the X-men on many occasions. Lets face it... people have used his name and face to promote their agandas. More so then Apocalypse!
And Lets not forget his daughter was responsible for the whole M-Day fiasco... As well as the Dissasmbling of the Avengers. And she was "good" at that time!
And Pietro, Mag's own son, lost his power in M-day so stole the mutating Terrigon mists. Mists that give people powers, b ut often have deadly consequences.
And all this tracks back to Erik Magnus Lehnsherr.... the greatest enemy of the X-men. (Besides other X-men)

I am still going to go with magneto and his brotherhood. House of M is one of the best storylines, and so The Scarlet Witch gets an honorable mention (offspring of Magneto). But magneto is the most interesting villain, because in some strange way his cause is valid.

I would have to say da Hellfire's club, because they were either ruthless, cunning, or outright manipulative. They matched up evenly with da X-men except when they turned a vulernable Jean Grey/Phoenix on their side or worst when da Dark Phoenix manifested. I would say Dark Phoenix as well cuz she was one of their own and it was hard to kill something that was your own teammate but indestructable capable of destroying star systems.

I think it would Apocalypse. He fought them over and over again, and in the animated series they even followed back and forth Through time to try and destroy him for good. I think he would have to be the X-Mens greatest threat.
