The poor people have clapped out Peugeots etc but hotel workers and richer people have Japanese 4x4s.I was there in November.

Extremely scary ones!
I travelled in a taxi with no back seat while I was in the Gambia! People tend to keep their cars going for as long as possible out there, despite dust and sand getting in the engines and some of the scariest and most accident prone driving I've ever experienced.
I seem to recall a lot of minibus type cars and truck - I couldn't tell you exactly what makes.

Taxi's and the runabouts are mainly peugot 505///504
good strong reliable cars and the parts are easy to get.you wouldn't think that for a 30 or so year old car.

Knackered old Peugot battlebusses, with two wheel nuts per wheel, no mirrors and cracked windscreens... trust me, I rented one once
