Not its not as easy to get Council housing as you think.

We were nearly made homeless last year due to mortgage repossession (we had lost my wage and couldn't keep up the repayments on what my BF was earning). I was 7 months pregnant and the council said that they would not house us as they see mortgage repossession as "intentional" homelessness, even though it was not our "fault" in any way - I'd had to give up work due to pregnancy related illness and our insurance wouldn't cover it as pregnancy as seen as self-inflicted".

They said they'd give us 6 weeks in a B&B to look for private rent (which would have cost more than our mortgage) and then nothing more, they'd have happily chucked a pregnant woman out on the street.

We hung onto our home with help from Shelter, and financial help from our families. But its really tough, especially with a small baby to care for and little money coming in.

They don't give a toss really. They only people they give accommodation to are asylum seekers.

The question should be - 'If I live on a council estate, will I develop a mental illness?'

i would not joke about things like that, theres is people out there that do suffer from this, its not there the choice its just something that has happened.
Ure answer to ure question is that u can get benefits depending on how bad ure illness is, u don't pay rent, but u don't get much either to live on.
