school holidays are needed. without them some children would have no escape from bullies. i still remember what a relief it was ot go home at the end of term and know i would have at least a week without torment and that when i went back afterwards they would leave me alone for a while due to forgetting what they were picking on about me. the break was usually short lived as they would find something new.....but without holidays/hols/time away from that building.... i might not have made it and i remember that every half term or end of term.... so i dont think holidays should be banned (however you choose to spell it)

You must be joking!?! School holidays are an opportunity for children to recharge their batteries and take a well-earned break from sitting in a classroom for 6+ hours a day, 5 days a week. Why shouldn't they be allowed to enjoy their childhoods? I'd like to know how you would have reacted had school holidays been banned when you were at school!!

No - put quite simply, they should not.

THE ONLY THING TO BE BANNED IS SCHOOL HOMEWORK as it is at school where the child does the studying - home life should be for enjoying their childhood.

Regarding schools - if there is something to be banned it must be homework - it is completely unnecessary and wrong to ask kids to worry about more school work after school.

I think someone has a case of endofhalftermitis. No they shouldn't - it's the only time we commuters get a break from having to battle for road space with herds of Chelsea Tractors driven badly by dwarves with no attention span whose only previous driving experience was gained in something no bigger than a roller skate. Why, when they've already moved house to get into the cachement area, can't they WALK their kids to school. It would save them on gym membership and give us all a break. We have 3 kids, and my wife does the walk to school and back twice a day......

yes and I'm a teacher. For a start they enable holiday companies to milk parents for cash because they put up prices during them, secondly in the UK anyway parents are punished when they take their children on holiday during term time to avoid these price hikes and thirdly i would like to be able to go snowboarding more than once a year but at present can't because of the holiday dates.

No way
School holidays are a way kids can relax and know they dnt have to go to school the next day. They can spend them with their family and friends and also do extra-curricluler activities, i bet you looked forward to the school holidays when you were younger.

But it is going beyond a joke I think kids are off school for some holiday or another every month of the year with the exeption of November I think?

Nope...

if your worried your child is playing Nintendo DS when not in school...put him in extra curricular activiities. Days off give students a chance to socialize outside the classroom environment.

Learning takes place everywhere not just the walls of a classroom

u mean holidays---no way

i am a teacher and kids need time off other than just weekends to be kids, spend time with family, go on vacation (educational ones or fun ones) and have a life outside of school

yeah school is awesome and important, but so is the world outside of it

why should they be banned? If you don't want holidays, then go to an all year school, or a boarding school. you get less holidays, not none, though.
