Companies whose employees belong to a union almost inevitably have better working conditions, benefits, pay and job security than those companies where employees do not have a union.

It's about power sharing - businesses are basically tyrannical institutions where the owners and managers have all the power and employees have none. Some people, namely Republicans, right wing libertarians and many Democrats, feel this arrangement is ideal. If a worker is unhappy for any reason, no matter how legitimate, "they are free to leave and work elsewhere."

Others would argue that such an arrangement profits owners and managers in a wholly disproportionate way and puts workers in a relatively powerless position. This is often referred to as "wage slavery."

To be sure, were it not for unions and organizations fighting for the interests of workers, there would not be any such thing as labor law establishing the 8-hour workday, overtime pay, limitations on child labor, safety standards, etc.

It totally depends on who you work for and what the benefits are, sometimes unions are better for specific conditions as in factory type jobs and construction jobs, as there can be so many different things that can happen that wouldn't be covered.
But in an everyday controlled environment, sometimes benefits and policies of the company in question can be better.

Depends on how you like your job!

If you like the same exact job day to do day with very specific responsibilities, then union is the way to go. If you like a job where you can do all sorts of things and have no restrictions, non union is the way to go.

In TV, union shops pay way higher. Even after paying union dues, it still pays better. But, my job is my job. I have very strict regulations what I can and can not do.

Unionized. A union ensures members are not abused, with the ultimate bargaining chip of no labor. No labor = No money.
