You may have the beginnings of an ick infestation. You can buy ick medication from the pet shop that will treat it.

If it's fuzzy it's likely Columnaris (aka Cotton-Wool, Cotton-Mouth, Flexibacter, Mouth Fungus) which is a bacteria infection. If it's like grains of salt it's ich (aka ick).

Ich- Best to use anti-ich meds. Salt can also help, but meds work better. (Add 1 teaspoon of salt per 5 gallons to a cup of tank water. Repeat every hour until you have 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon.)

Columnaris- Treat with trisulfa, jungle labs fungus eliminator (includes antibiotics too), or anything claiming to treat gram negative bacteria.

Try water changes, this sounds like a condition we used to call cotton mouth,it's a fungus infection caused usually by ammonia in the water that is caused by overfeeding or lack of frequent water changes. When the water is clean try a fungus remedy from the pet store. I seem to recall a product called Methylene Blue that worked pretty well. Fish breeders use it to prevent fungus on certain fishes eggs. ------Good luck.---- PeeTee
