I got a message from a dating website the other day that made it look like I'd set up a profile. It made me mad because it made me look guilty of something I hadn't done. Fortunately my husband believed me when I told him I hadn't visited the site. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I went to the website and it had my username and password from yahoo. Should I worry about that? Does yahoo do that kind of thing?

It's a common form of spamming or phishing. They're counting on your curiosity and/or sense of worry/guilt to submit information they can then misuse. Another popular one is a fake "ad" that looks like an error message saying you were discovered to have illegal material on your hard drive. You go to the website and you're then either sold a type of cleaning software, or they attempt to gain personal information. I'm willing to bet your dating thing was a fake ad made to draw people into the website to pay to sign up. I consider it a very unethical form of advertising.

yeah, it's called Spam mail, its like when people send you emails advertising viagra or bigger 'bits' so to speak, even though you have never signed up for anything. some sites just run random searches over the net looking for any emails addresses they find, and send unsolicited emails to all of them. it's a pain in the butt, but happens a lot...I've had so many of those over the years in my hotmail/yahoo accounts, i just delete them all now.
