Anything that would give you gas like some people can't have broccoli cuz of gas. Spicey foods like Mexican, some Italian foods. Anything that would bother you, might bother baby. You should eat a lot of bland foods. Bananas, Oat meal, lots and lots of fruit juices, cereal - any kind.

Your baby can also taste certain foods in your breast milk that you eat. Yes! They can taste the food you eat. Your baby may reject your milk if you eat something spicey that they don't like. They may just pull away from your breast. Mine used to pull away if I smoke even like 1/2 hour before I had to breastfeed. Yeah, I smoked while I breastfed and I ended up paying for it later. My milk ended up drying up because of it. You have to be really careful when breastfeeding, not to lose your milk supply. I was careless, I never thought I would run out because you get soooooooo much in the beginning. Almost too much. I was breastfeeding and pumping out tons and tons of milk/day. Now, I have nothing left, my baby just turned 4 months today and she is 100% on formula now. She has been for about 2 or 3 months now. At least I got her on my milk for the 1st month of her life. They say that is better than none at all. It is so good for their development. Your milk also has your anti-bodies in it which help prevent bub from getting sicknesses other babies may get that are on formula. My bub has not gotten sick one time. She was born in Oct. 2006 and it is FREEZING here where I live and she has not gotten even a cold. It's because of my milk I believe. Even for that little bit of time that I had her on it. Your milk is like LIQUID GOLD to a newborn. Kudos to you for breastfeeding - or at least considering it.

My little man is 12 weeks old today and from what I have experienced you just need to be aware on what you are eating. The food you consume will enter your breastmilk within about 2 hours, basically the need feed you give your child. Take note on how your baby is from that feed whether he had problems bringing up his wind, if there are problems look at what you ate and go from there. I definately need to stay clear of onions that is the worst for my little man. I don't really eat spicy foods so that doesn't really have any affect. I hope this helps. Good luck with bubs!!

I ate whatever I wanted to. The only difference is that I ate certain things in moderation such as food that have caffeine in it. Some babies are more susceptible to having problems with certain foods. Don't cut anything out of your diet just because someone said so. Experiment and find out what is okay and what isn't. Your baby will let you know by either rejecting the breast, being fussy or very gassy.

As a Mom who's been sucessfully nursing for just over a year - I say listen to your body and eat what/when you want. Obviously healthy is best, and moderation is required for some things, but don't arbitrarily stop eating certain foods! Every Mom/Baby is unique, and you just have to see what works for you (like so much more in parenting!)

Best of Luck (It's all worth it!)

You can eat more foods than you could while you were pregnant. But some babies will turn they're nose up if you have eaten spicey food as it taints the milk. I have heard that colicky babies shouldn't have cabbage, it makes them worse.
Oh, no nuts! they could have an allergy, beware! That's the only thing I really avoided. My health advisor told me to eat a high fat diet, such as dairy.

After our baby was born, my wife continued to eat as if she was still pregnant, because just as when the baby is in utero and shares all the nutrients from the mother, the breast milk will carry the same nutrients in a similar manner. If you have any specific concerns, you should consult your doctor. Good Luck!!

Nothing needs to be avoided unless you or your child have an allergy or other trouble with it.

"Generally, anything you are happy eating is okay for you to eat while you are breastfeeding."

I agree, nothing is off limits, provided everything is in moderation. If you are concerned about consuming too many vegetables, I would consider taking Beano. I don't know if it is safe to take though during bfeeding.
I hope I was of help.
