By pre-made, I mean a pre-configured one from HP or Dell or a big computer company like them.

By custom, I mean you pick your own case, prossesor, RAM, etc.

I am thinking of starting a business making computers, so I need some advice.

I also mean that the customs would come pre-built.

The best system is the system that you build!

Buy the parts and build it yourself!

Custom all the way, as long as the person that builds it knows what they are doing. Dells are hard to upgrade (if i upgraded my RDRAM RAM to 1.5GB i'd have to find $1200 for it). The other PCs you buy pre-built are generally easy to upgrade and so forth, but with a custom you get what you want, not a bunch of trial software and stuff like that.

Custom!!!

you will find with pre-built ones.. that unless you fork out a fortune, they will have some great parts in them to make them sell, but they will mix in a heap of crap parts that they dont advertise.

With custom building your own, you have full control over what is in it

If the computer is for my personal use only then the " pre-made " is fine, but if I required a special application computer then, of course, the " custom " for whatever specific purpose it is applied to.

I used to build my own, but the prices of components now make that prohibitive. HP will customize one for you much cheaper.
