My boyfriend is an artsit and *used* to pour a lot of paints and such down the drain. He doesn't anymore, but the countless countainers of drain-o seem to be doing less and less good. Sometimes he will shower at 6:30am, and by the time I need to shower [sometimes as late as 5pm] - it is STILL backed up. I tried pulling the plug out to break some of the junk up myself, but I can't. Any suggestions besides drain-o....it's getting so costly.

if he was pouring water based paint down the drain it should have no impact on the drain. Liquid Plumber and Draino. (laughs, slaps knee) Might as well pour bleach down it. What you need is this, find a PROFESSIONAL type drain cleaner. Meaning, it contains either concentrated or virgin sulphuric acid. It will and does dissolve ANYTHING organic. I'm guessing it's an accumulation of hair in the drain. Bathtubs are famous for this.

Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, should carry it, the brand I generally get is called "FlowEasy" about $8 a bottle. I'd also suggest investing in a different strainer cover for your tub, something with finer holes that is more likely to catch the hair. Short of shaving your head, there aren't to many sure fire fixes for hair clogs. But this is one of them.

Follow the directions carefully, and exactly and you should have no problems. This stuff is strong.

I'll bet your problem may likely be tree roots. As the paint would form a restriction or clog, but I can't see it changing. Whereas roots keep growing.

This can be an inexpensive experiment. SOme hardware stores will carry Copper Sulfate, should be right next to the drain cleaning products. Sometimes its called "Root Away". Follow the instructions and flush it down at night and then don't use any drain all night. If you situation improves in the morning, you have tree roots.

As others have suggested Roto-Rooter will clear this, but the roots will come back. You then either do maintenance treatments with Copper Sulfate, or have your pipes dug up and replaced. Or, you could cut down the offending tree(s).

If you really believe this is paint, perhaps a water based stripper (semi-environmentally friendly) might be worth a shot.

countless the solutions given have stated the main situation: HaiR! short or long, thick or skinny, hair gets down the drain and is the perpetrator of maximum clogs. The strainer that others have stated is mandatory - for aLL drains! the immaculate one others have stated, suits precisely into my kitchen sink: i does no longer be devoid of it; i've got given one [or 2] to each buddy and family contributors member! [WalMart, $2]. The above bought strainer, tho, does not extra healthy into my bathe drains. consequently, I bumped off the drain pipe conceal [2 screws] to permit placement of a around piece of cord window demonstrate. I in basic terms cut back a circle from an previous window demonstrate, and save it placed over the drain, with the extremely drain conceal over that. you would be surprised what it catches! and because it catches lots, it needs to be usually wiped clean - or replaced; So, i do no longer screw down the extremely drain conceal, yet in basic terms leave it loose, tho in place, over the piece of window demonstrate. it is the all-substantial Preventive maintenance! element is, do notwithstanding it takes to maintain stuff - incredibly Hair - from happening any drain.

tubs usually get hair caught in the drain. If you look in your drain you should see two or four prongs sticking out from the sides. There is a special tool that is pretty cheap that you use to pull out the drain. I pulled mine out and there was a clump of hair that I easily removed and things have been fine since. My house is 30 years old. If you don't own it, have the super clear it or hire a plumber.

Most plumbers will tell you that Drain O and Liquid Plumber and boric acid are the absolute worst things to pour down your drain. I f you have a clog the absolute best thing to do is pull the pipes and clean them manually. The first time is the worst but after that it is much easier and doesn't smell as bad. Have fun

You need to call Roto Rooter and have them professionally run a "Snake" thru the drain pipes. This will cost a bit, but in the long run will be worth it.

Yes, pouring paints, greases, etc., is not good at all.

your house or a rental? You could relace the drain pipe if you have access and it is close to top. Also if it is an apartment and you have some one below, it may need to be cleaned out from their tub. Have it 'snaked', that is the best way to go.
