So far 5 answers, 1 has used Vista and 4 haven't. And 1 thinks Vista runs fine, the other 4 say it is bad. This is very typical, people turn rumor into fact. Well I am running Vista as we speak, and it has very very few bugs. If you are looking into a new computer, don't let other people's paranoia deter you.

There is never a bad time to buy a good computer. However, windows vista is new to the market and have not faced the demands that the pc world will impose on any operating system. The advent of new pc components with higher performance power demanded a new operating system to drive these gorgeous pieces into frenzy. However, when the going gets hot, lets see if vista can keep up. OR, will gates crouch in a corner clutching his throat, panting for breath with pangs, and fainting spells. I think vista will fail in its first debut to the general public.
Remedy: here comes service pack-1.
Prognosis: Fair
Treatment Course: Service pack-2
Outcome: vista is now ready for the serious windows users. All holes plugged, or as many as possible.
Buy your computer, but dont expect that TKO with vista. It will have to jab its way through to the end. But, it will come up a winner.

Most of the time, it is good to wait at least a year until buying Vista. There are a lot of bugs found, and im sure there are more that they will find later. Anything from Microsoft, wait 6 months to 1 year until purchasing something from Microsoft. Look at the Xbox 360.

I just bought a New Dell xps 210 2 weeks ago With Vista Ultimate. I'm glad to say that it runs very smoothly, no problems it all. If you haven't used Vista yet, it will take a little time to get used to, but all in all I'm quite impressed.

When a new operating system comes out, it does take a few service packs to get the systems very stable. Personally, I would get one with XP and wait on the upgrade. You really don't need all those options.
Use a coupon if you are buying from dell. They offer plenty and you can get a great deal. They are available at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html
Good Luck
