running off of a non-wireless DSL..
the likes of limewire and frostwire aren't connecting..

people are telling me to check my ports..
how exactly do i go about doing this ?
(( i know my IP adress ))

wel u type the IP address in the adres bar and press enter, you'l be asked for your password and once u in you click on nat and there should be tab to click on saying port forward, there u just add the port number. Or u could go to www.portward.com

what firewall are you using? have a look in the settings and if it is automatically controlling controlling the firewall take back control.
then when you open either application it should give some kind of pop up asking you if you want to allow the connection. be carefull though if you do not know what you are doing!.

Check in Control Panel/Windows Fire Wall/Exceptions Tab then look to see if the programs are in the list if not add them

Dump p2p. it is a notorious source for malware and virii if not secured effectively.

As a service provider we have blocked P2P because impact of litigation

it is definately either your windows firewall or your antivirus wirewall check them both out you could try disabling firewall to see if you can connect to limewire then enable it once connected

There trying to tell you to go to your modem/ router to
open the ports those programs need to use.

You probably have a firewall through your router. Check your routers manual.
