I'm new to make up stuff too but my sister is a pro so she taught me, you hold the mascara brush close to the eyelashes and close your eye slowly and at the same time, bring the brush upward before your eye totally closes. Then you just reverse it, open your eye but bring the brush down. This way, both sides of the eyelash gets coated! Just make sure to do that 2 times and then one more but only the first part (eye closing on brush) so that your lashes will be curving upward when you're done! It works nicely.

I don't do the bottom, instead when my top eyelashes are still wet, I'll close my eyes and let the top and bottom lashes touch. Sometimes I'll kind of squint and push the top of my cheek up so i can be sure the bottom lash got some on it. Then you have to take a q tip and clean under the bottom lashes cuz some mascara will land there.

I don't use eyelash curlers, rather I use a lash brush, ill use the part that you hold (just the barrel of the brush) to push my lashes up and hold it for about 5 seconds. Then, using the tiny comb part, just comb upwards a few times, jiggling the comb back and forth a bit, very lightly, to separate the lashes and make them stay upward. You gotta do this while they are still wet. I do this until I feel they are a bit dry.

I just replace my mascara when I run out, lol! I'd say don't use one that's over a year old though. The make up will dry out and not be as effective after a while, specially if you used it a lot.

Reccomended brands? I use cover girl. I'm not really sure if the brands matter or not but find one you love and stick with it.

Hope I helped!

Before you apply mascara, use an eye lash curler (little device you can get at drug store). Curl the upper lashes.

Take the brush and bring it close to, but not touching the the base of the upper lash, move slowly upwards, do the whole upper lash of both eyes. Repeat alternately if you want a fuller or darket effect. Then the same for the bottom, get near the base, slowly brush down.

If you get a smudge, use a q-tip to remove it right away.

You can apply a little powder under the lower lash area on your skin with a q-tip to help prevent smudging.

Applying too quickly is not efficient and can cause a mess.

Mascara's come in many price ranges, water resistant and not water resistant. I use L'oreal water resistant. Don't go overboard on the expensive stuff - its all relatively the same. Replace at least every three months and don't share with anyone.

Most important is to buy a good eye makeup remover before you start using eye makeup. I use one by Biotherm. It may cost a little more, but it is very thorough and quick.

You must remove makeup every night otherwise your eyes will get irritated and the mascara will start coming off and look bad.

Good luck!

Dont worry no one is very good at it in the begining. The best tips I learned are: sit at a table with a hand mirror laying on the table. You can see the lashes better without having to open your eyes so wide that they dry out quicker and then you blink too much. Also, if you do your lower lashes do them first. If you don't then you get mascara above your eyes from wet upper lashes. Next I do the tops of my upper lashes. I'm blonde so if I dont every time I blink the blonde shows. Last do the bottoms of the upper lashes. I prefer a curved brush but the formula I like best doesnt have one. So I just Stick the brush in a little bit and bend it. Dont pump the wand it just forces air into the mascara and it dries out faster. If you need more on the wand just twist it. Hope this helps and keep trying.

Whatever you do, start slow. If you are just getting started with make up, don't put it all on at once. Do mascarra one day, eye liner another. I wouldn't use foundation or anything so large becasue frankly (I gather you are a teen) it looks hideous if it isn't applied perfectly.

Practicing, and limiting what you use each day, will help you to develop a better idea of what looks good on *you.* What works for some people doesn't work for everyone! (As a very fair skinned girl with blue eyes, i learned pretty early that eye liner just looked garish.)

What do you mean, you can't get it "right?" The type of brush mattersand I'm not familar with that kind, sorry.

When I got started I took out some really helpful books from my library. Also, ask an aunt or your mother or someone from your church to show you how to apply makeup. Or an older girl.

Just... remember to apply tastfully. Less is more with make up. Don't fall into the I-wish-I-was-a-racoon trapp. Surveys show that guys like subtle makeup more than any other kind!

Unfortunatly, theres no immidiate miracle cure for learming how to put on makeup. Everyone struggles with it and it takes every girl a while to figure our her own style. You will too! Practice, ask opinions from people you trust, and learn from others. Take out some books.

Good luck...

First, you should blink a couple times, to be sure not to blink while applying the mascara. Then look up, and I know this sounds kinda silly, but I open my mouth & it really helps. I only do 1 stroke because I have naturally long eyelashes. And, I personally think it looks better if you don't wear it on the bottom lashes, but I don't know how it looks on you!
After I apply my mascara I brush it out with a eyebrow/eyelash brush I bought at CVS...(I recommend that! =])
I replace my mascara every couple months, because after awhile it starts to get clumpy (eww).
*I use Mayblline's Volum' Express Turbo Boost mascara*<- I highly recommend it =]

I personally am greatful for mascara it compliments the eyes, well, I always curl my eyelashes first until satisfied, then I apply
the mascare to the top lashes only the front and back of the lashes to get the dramatic effect. I use Maybeline Volume Express and the Rimmel curved brush. i usually alternate just for the sense of change. I usually purchase new mascara when it starts smelling weird or starts to dry out. But never pull the brush in and out of the bottle repeatly because that air dries it out faster.

Look up while stroking the mascara, look up only with your eyes not your head. That way you have less of a chance of poking youself in the eye. Do about 2 to 3 strokes for each eye, and i wiggly it slightly back and forth to apply more. You should replace mascara once every 6 months, or if it becomes clumpy, which ever comes first. If you don't replace it, you can get eye infections, or the mascara will flake off.

Youll get it. It takes practice. Look up with your eyes, not your head. if you want to use eyelash curlers:Clasp the thingy around the middle of your eyelashes to get a good curl. If you want a lot of volume you need to use a lot of strokes. But if you want a more subtle look, only apple two or 3 strokes. try the covergirl lash exact masacara, it works nicely adn doesnt clump. Replace your masacra whenever it dries out so you dont get an eye infection. good luck

ok so u curl your lashes BEFORE you apply the mascara. you are supposed to replace it at least every 2 months if it lasts that long. i love Loreal Voluminous mascara. and Covergirl super thick lash r both GREAT mascaras and great brands! so you may want to buy a clear mascara to go under your regular colored one to make it glide on easier. then u hav your mascara brush-put it on the base of your lashes and sweep through. for added volume as your sweeping through move the brush from side to side to thicken. tilt your head up then while your applying look down towards your chin. did that make sense? this helps the mascara get onto your lashes not your lids. you may want the mirror down near your chin so youre looking down into it. for lower lashes stay as close to the base of lashes as u can get so if u mess up it wont look so bad it will look like eyeliner whereas if u do it farther from the base it'll smudge and just look messy. good luck!!!

p.s. one to two coats is good u dont want wirey lashes.
