How would a patient be able to survive while their heart is taken out due to the time it takes to successfully put a new heart in???? I was just wondering because it is a pretty wierd thing to think about

They can freeze the blood vessels and then add an additional artificial heart that can keep the body pumping for a little while, too long and the artificial heart won't be able to carry on the surgery and the blood will stop moving. But they can usually get the heart out and back in just in time.

The patient is maintained on a heart/lung bypass machine until the surgery is complete.

A heart lung machine.Then they do have to jump start your heart after the surgery......
