Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 and Japan surrendered on August 14, 1945 although the surrender document was not signed until Sept. 2, 1945. Some scholars make a case that the war started years earlier, on Sept. 18, 1931 or July 7, 1937. On both of these dates Japan launched military attacks on China, the first in Manchuria, the second in areas of China to the south of Manchuria. The United States declared war on Japan on Dec. 8, 1941 after Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec. 7, 1941.

True, with some reservations:

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_2
“World War II (abbreviated WWII), or the Second World War, was a worldwide conflict fought between the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers, from 1939 until 1945. However, the reasons for WW2 were unsettled scores from WW1 and we are still dealing with the consquences of WW2 today.

Israel was created by the guilty feeling Allies after WW2. At the time the area wasn’t that volitile or that rich so no one cared. Now the rich oil states can help to sponser “relief” missions in Palestiane. Most of that money is funneled off to terrorists, just like most of American donations to the IRA were. This has created a huge problem in the Middle East. If not for Israel the US would find it easier to establish peace. If not for the Cold War Iraq, Syria and Egypt wouldn’t be armed with Soviet weapons.

The Cold War was a direct result of WW2 when the Allies gave back Germany to the Germans and the Soviets refused to give back any land that they controlled. Japan took over Korea, China and Vietnam. When the war ended for administration purposes the northern part of those nations were put under temporary Soviet control. After WW2 these nations remained split under Soviet control. So the Korean War and the Vietnam War were direct results of this problem. The current difficulty with the rouge state North Korea is another problem caused by WW2. China turned communist because the Soviet Union had a foothold in the nation and they supported Mao.

Some historians follow these ideas and consider all of them to be a part of WW1, altought the majority understand their arguments they still cling to the traditional concept of two wars.

Iran is working on developing the nuclear bomb, and they are determined to do it. Their current plant is underground because the Israelis destroyed the last one. Once they have the nuclear bomb (and there is no doubt they will develop one) then they won’t be foolish enough to use them themselves, instead they will ‘sell’ them to Hezbollah (a terrorist organization that was founded by Iran I 1982). Hezbollah will have no quam’s on using those nukes. When Israel is nuked, they will respond. If this leads to WW3, and many fundemental Christians hope it will, then the root cause of that war will lie in the aftermath of WW1.

i feel world war 1 and 2 were the same war just with a pause because with out germany's economy being shot from inflation and the gov't going belly up hitler would have never been able to gain power. but yes it ended in 1945 with victory over japan.

How do you define start? I believe Hitler lead the German "invasion" of places like Austria before 1939. They openly let him in and openly "surrendered" to him so I guess that doesn't count as the start of the war.
