I used to work at McD's. In fact I worked at three different ones. The first two were really good. Everyone washed their hands at least once an hour and anything dropped was immediately thrown away and we sanitized our hands. The last one was bad. No one washed their hands or even used gloves to prepare the food. One guy had a bad cough and used to cough everywhere without covering his mouth or even at least turning his head away from the food. I left after a few weeks because it was so unsanitary and I didn't want to be associated with that restaurant. It all depends on the owner of the franchise and how much they care about sanitation and rules. Each franchise is different but in my experience there are quite a few bad ones.

I've done McDonalds and Burger King
Depends on what store your in. Some are cleaner than others.
I've heard this too. My neighbor used to work for Burger King and said there were guys who would wipe the burgers on their groin and turn around and serve food. I've heard of guys not washing their hands in the bathroom although I don't know how you'd ever proove that one.
I know my husband and I went to a McDoanalds once and they gave us the wrong sandwich. So after we looked it all over to be sure it was the wrong one, we brought it back - and they served it to someone else!!!!!
How they get away with this is anyones guess! I would've been fired so fast it would make your head spin!!!
I used to work at a McD's in Ga and we had mice and roaches! We had the roaches because it was hot and I guess roaches just like it where it's hot.
The mice I was told was because it was an old building. I offered to bring in a cat and even take care of it myself but was told it was against sanitation rules. ha ha! Mice are ok, but cats aren't?

Do you really want to know? I once saw a guy spit on a hamburger bun and use a spatula to spread it out. Then he toasted it and served it. And I used to work at a place with a really nasty old man who cleaned the dining room.. He would blow his nose over the garbage can in the kitchen and use his towel to wipe his hands and face. Then he would continue using the towel to wipe tables and trays. He would cough and sneeze all over the condiment stand. He also often talked to people no one else could see. Yet no one would do anything about it. I was so freaked out and all the managers would do is laugh and say he can't help it. If they said anything to him at all it was for him to stop doing it because it bothered me. Also they wouldn't fire him because he'd worked there for a long time. If I hadn't really needed that job I would have run from the place screaming.
Your biggest danger is being served old food. Workers will cook up too much and it'll be served to as many people as will have it, often at the instruction of managers who don't want to get in trouble for having excessive waste. Part of the problem, though, is these people aren't getting paid enough to care. If you want a good product and good service you need to have employees who feel valuable to the company. And gold stars and employee of the week doesn't cut it. Treating adults with responsibilities like stupid children is not going to give good results. Anyone who has worked in fast food knows that it's anything but unskilled work. When it's done right.

I used to work at a Dairy Queen, and we were pretty sanitary there. If something fell on the floor, it went into the trash. Everything was kept fresh and made fresh. If a burger had been sitting on the warmer longer than 15 mins, it would get thrown away, or one of us would eat it. We weren't allowed to touch anything with our hands, like brownies or bananas, and people were always washing their hands. The only gross thing I remember is sometimes the bananas would be too brown and squishy to my liking!

It really depends on the restaraunt. I had a short stint and McDonald's, but didn't like it, so I left. However, I didn't see anything there that would make me not want to eat there. McDonalds adheres to VERY strict standards nowdays, and although you will hear rumors, things like you just mentioned simply do not happen there. Most big restaraunt chains are managed well, because they don't want to deal with a big lawsuit. One exception that I have noticed is Burger King. I've known people that have worked at several Burger Kings, and they say that it is dirty, and poorly managed. I can see that just by looking into their kitchen at most of them.

Good question, I've always wondered this. My sister told me it was sanitary at the McDonald's she worked at. But at this McDonald's in the big city, my cousin's friend worked there and if she'd have rude customers, she'd lick their patties! It's so gross because my auntie is so rude and she used to go to THAT SAME McDonald's every day and she was always mean to the servers. This just grosses me out, but I still eat fast food so often!

I worked at a pizza parlor/carry-out once. It was a dive. I never saw any critters, but I quit after two weeks.
