Hello everyone,
I live in Tokyo and would like to grow a lawn. Lawns are not common in Japan, so getting information locally has been quite difficult. Therefore, I would like to find out which region of America is similar to Tokyo in order to get good information about what seeds to choose, and how to maintain my lawn.
For the recored, Tokyo in January is about 8C average, and in July it is about 28C average. It can be as hot as 40C in summer, and have overnight frost in winter. Summer is very humid, June and September are very wet, and winters are exceptionally dry.
Thanks in advance!

To convert to Farhenheit,
8C is about 50F,
28C is about 80F, and
40C is about 100F.

Hi Chris. Me again. Many of us in the US have a difficult time converting celsius into fahrenheit. I hate to admit that, because it makes me feel stupid, but maybe adding Tokyo temps in F to your question will draw more American Yahoo! Answerers. I do know this, a great deal of the most common plant materials from the Mid-Atlantic States; Delaware, south to north Georgia, are native to Japan. Without the evergreen plants native to Japan, the mid-Atlantic would be a very bleary place every winter. That says to me that the climate in those states is very much like Japan's. The only thing that does not seem to match is the "dry in winter" part. Mid-Atlantic States are most certainly not dry in the wintertime.
Nevertheless, Fescue grass will get you the lawn you want, if you can just purchase or import some seed. With all of the agricultural import restrictions in most nations, that may turn out to be no mean feat!
