Been looking at a few guitar's recently but i'm really not sure what to get. I've always promised myself i'd get a les paul, so thats what i'm aiming for, but i can't afford a Gibson so i'm looking at Epiphones. So really it's a choice between a standard les paul http://www.gear4music.com/Guitars/Epiphone_Electric/Epiphone_Les_Paul_Standard_-_Ebony7.html or a black beauty http://www.gear4music.com/Guitars/Epiphone_Electric/Epiphone_Les_Paul_Black_Beauty_3_-_Ebony7.html The black beauty is a bit more expensive, would it be worth the extra?! Or do you think i should complatly scrape the idea and go for something else, or maybe even try and save for a Gibson?

Based on your "name" I would choose the Vox pentagonal Phantom guitar.

or
The Fender Stratocaster
(much of the popularity of the Stratocaster can be attributed to its versatility. The neck, middle, and bridge (termed "rhythm", "normal tone" and "lead", respectively) pickups provide a wide range of tones. The standard single-coil pickups often found in Stratocasters produce a trebly sound with a high top end and bell-like harmonics. The Stratocaster is extremely versatile and has been used for a variety of purposes, from the classic "Fender twang" to the slicing solos of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton to the fat, crunching tones in Ritchie Blackmore's "Smoke on the Water", while it is unable to fully match the trebly highs of Telecasters or the warm lows of Les Pauls.)

Gibson RD - which is used by Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth)
Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and Dustin Kensrue (Thrice)

The Fender and the Gibson are both used by the best guitar player of all time, the iconic, Jimmy Page.

In short, get what you can afford and what sounds good and what you feel comfortable playing, but, start and save up and get the best.

I wouldn't spend the money for a gibson unless I was actually touring or some #$%#. 'sides, your really paying extra for the name. A high end epi would do you just as good with a good amp and effects. Or you can even upgrade the pickups and still spend way less than a gibson. Either way. I put some zakk wylde emg's on my epi les paul and it f'n rocks.

I would save up for the gibson if u are 100% sure u want to continue playing guitar. if ur a begginner, id get the epiphone...good bang for the buck, and not as much risk as a gibson.

depends, have you gone to your local store and played them yet? because if you haven't you might end up not liking them, i know everyone loves Les Paul's, I'm not one of those people. play the guitar before you buy it.
