Okay, don't think I'm a freak, but i have a MAJOR fear of baloons. And I mean major.

I've had this phobia of baloons ever since I can remember. Whenever I go to parties that i'm invited to, they always hide the baloons because they know i'm afraid.

I stopped being friends with this one girl because she popped a baloon in my face. OMG, I had a panic attack and had to leave school, I literally cried the rest of the day and couldn't sleep.

One time, me and some of my friends decided to help me overcome the fear. I tried to touch a baloon, but as soon as I touched it, it popped!!! I was so scared that I ran out of my house and down the block crying. Just writing this makes me shiver.

I'm even scared of pictures of baloons, even cartoon ones.

Does anyone know how to get over this fear (I already go to a phsychiatrist, but that isn't helping).

I'm afraid of them popping and the baloons themselves.

Thanks, I will post a new question in that section.

Oh my goodness! I feel so bad for you. Just avoid balloons. Then work your way up... Look at a pic of them, then maybe a week later look at a real one. Then like 4 days later touch one. Then 2 days later hold one... etc.
*Good luck*

Just to let you know, im 12, I'm scared of bridges and stickers and my upstairs of my house in the dark, and being alone

I used to work with a guy who had a MAJOR fear of balloons too! I'd never heard of it until I met him. And we worked in a amusement park (Disneyland)...there were balloons all around! He seriously wouldn't even look at one...and he DEFINITELY wouldn't touch one. Once, there was one that was halfway deflated and we threw it in the trashbin by our registers...and he wouldn't even come in the area. THAT'S when I knew he was serious.

Anyway, I SO feel for yah...but unfortunately I can't help you. =( If seeing a psychiatrist isn't working, perhaps you need to switch to another one? I really doubt anything that anyone says here will help you get over your fear if even a psychiatrist can't help you. Perhaps you could try being hypnotized? That works for some people.

just relax. don't take this the wrong way, but a balloon can't really hurt you. I used to be afraid of the noise they make when they popped. all i can say is just keep going to your psychiatrist and remember that balloons don't have brains or anything, they're not alive, they can't hurt you.

why did you put such a question in this section?
the phsyciotry section (in social science) would be better for you.

i recommend reasking in that section, but i'll give you an answer.

first off, is just of balloons, or of them popping?

i will edit this answer when you put in additional details.
