get the one that plugs into the cig lighter, then the radio has to be on 87.7 or something like that.

Get an iTrip, it plugs into the earphone jack then there's a connector that you plug into your car lighter and the bottom of the iPod. Tune to 87.9 on an FM station and the iPod plays through the car stereo. (There's also software you can download that enables you to tune to other 'clear' FM stations.)
I've had mine for a couple of years now and I love it.
