In Kentucky, there is a program called "Alternative Certification". In this, you would not have to get a new degree but would need to complete some professional development activities, university courses in teaching methods, and of course pass the PRAXIS examination. For more information you may visit www.education.ky.gov or www.kyepsb.net. Good luck!

Each state has its own requirements for teacher certification. I would check the Kentucky State Dept of Education's website.

I'm in Maryland and had a BA in Art History. To get certified to teach, I was in college an additional 2 years adn it was another degree.

Some colleges now offer Master's degrees that will give you a general certification, but if you want to specialize in a particular area, you may have to do the undergraduate route.

Talk to your local university...in California a person with a BA could enroll in teachers education and take a bunch of tests as well as credentialing classes.
